The Smoke Inside My Head
Liam Armstrong is an artistic, educated, hard working family man, but underneath his charismatic persona, he is a radical-minded outcast with a strange hobby for phobias. During the school summer holiday period, he becomes a temporary manager at the isolated Oak Lodge Conservatory hoping to cure his son’s fear of his sadistic primary teacher. He settles in along with his wife and son in a seemingly idyllic sanctuary surrounded by tranquil forests and lakes, but as Liam’s unhealthy preoccupation for finding people with irrational fears worsens, he ends up inadvertently tormenting his family and colleagues. As he unravels the dark secrets of the conservatory and exposes the lunacy of its micro-management system, he disrupts the balance of this retreat with catastrophic results. Quirky, philosophical, and suspenseful, this dark comedy novel is full of mystery and drama which ridicules the modern work ethic and sympathises with the cynical individualist struggling to survive "after they have blown out all the smoke from inside their head".

I Went For A Walk And Never Came Back
I Went For A Walk And Never Came Back is a lonesome first person narrated novella that weaves various character lives together in a way that leaves the reader question the line between reality and fantasy. A senile gentleman in Aberystwyth takes a walk, loses his way from home, and ends up suspecting he is a host to a mind-controlling parasite. A teenage girl in Putney escapes her life working in an all-day-breakfast cafe to pursue a passion for classical music. An educated, respectable house wife and mother finds herself lost on a spiritual quest while under the influence of opium and alcohol. A disfigured, frenzied office worker suffering from several compulsive disorders chases a girl through the streets of London until he finally finds a way to literally escape this world. Written in a lucid, reflective prose style, this meandering tale captures the essence of solitude, repressed passions and nostalgia in both humorous and melancholy voices.
