Gwilym Rees

Gwilym writes personal narrative, philosophical fiction and psychological drama stories which tackle themes such as infatuation, solitude, love, compulsion and phobia - sometimes surprising the reader by breaking away from realism and into fantasy. His novels and novellas are allusive and ironic, yet he expresses a clear insight into the psychology of the individualist with a lucid prose style, often using short sentences and aphorism. His moody, reflective tales contrast with a whimsical humour that verges on the satirical.
Although he has always been a keen writer from an early age, Gwilym has a varied background. He has over twenty years experience in film and the arts, ten of which was spent teaching disabled children in theatrical performance and media. He studied Violin at the Guildhall School of Music, completed a film degree at University of Arts London, and he is a Berlinale Talent. His career spanned across various roles as a writer, university lecturer, arts centre manager, and film and television composer. Born in 1982 of Swiss and Welsh parents, he grew up in London, and continues to write and live in the city.
